Joseph Githongo is on the limelight over claims that he illegally acquired a vast estate belonging to his late best friend and business associate Bernard Murage. A story is told of the two how Githongo senior and Murage met in school in the UK before kicking off a friendship that later turned into business. The friendship took a turn when Murage passed on in 1982 leaving his uninformed family behind. For instance, Githongo has been accused of acquiring a provisional title deed for 595 acres of land west of Kilifi.
Upon inquiry, the late Murage's family has gathered that the land belonged to the late Murage and its value is in billions. Despite this, Murage's widow raised her kids single-handedly leaving behind huge debts when she died in 2003. The family with the help of several top-ranking lawyers will instigate lawsuits against Githongo Jr in a bid of recovering what rightfully belongs to them. It remains to to be seen how the case will unfold in court.
